eco-roundhouses
The whole point about a roundhouse is that ....
it encloses more space and looks better than a box
Single storey 100 sq metre house
 RECTANGLE   wall run   41 m.
 CIRCLE           wall run   35 m.
That is 15% less wall area to
build, insulate and lose heat through
Our project is to build two linked eco-roundhouses with turfed roofs.

These will be superinsulated  with 100 tonnes of built in thermal mass into floors and walls. We will rely on passive solar gain for most of our heating requirements. There will be passive stack ventilation through central rooflights in each roundhouse
We have been particularly inspired by  the Brithdir Mawr low impact roundhouse at Newport in Pembrokeshire (left) and also the timeless archaeology of Newgrange and Knowth in Ireland.  (above)

There are three round hill forts within 1km of our plot - all Scheduled Ancient Monuments
Our house will be called Tigh Cruinn which is round house in Gaelic.
